The Bible says that the Lord God never changes and cannot lie. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever." Hebrews 6:18 says, "...it is impossible for God to lie." In our church you will hear that we have all done things that have disappointed and let God down by disobeying Him. God said it himself in Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Accepting this God-given truth, we all agree that whoever comes into our fellowship has (like us) disobeyed God and has or had issues (like us) that need to be identified and changed. The greatest news of all is that God promised He would forgive us of anything if we ask Him to, love us unconditionally, accept us as people that have been given another chance, and restore us in spirit, mind and strength. He planned for this by sending His Son, Jesus, to take the punishment for our disobedience. All we have to do is believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ came to earth to "pay" the penalty for our individual sin (1 John 1:8-10).
The hope that Jesus brings is simply awesome! We have witnessed the Lord break addictions, habits and behaviors, mend relationships, and bring healing to bodies that doctors could not cure. He has restored joy to those who have suffered with depression, given a new purpose to those who have contemplated suicide, healed marriages that seemed doomed for destruction, and destoyed the guilt of past failures.
We at First Church have joined in the Lord's work by loving, accepting and helping to restore those that have had their lives ruined by divorce, drugs, alcohol, every kind of abuse, addiction or habit. It is amazing to watch people's lives be transformed by a new life in Christ. We are not perfect, but we rely on the power God has given us through the Holy Spirit to overcome the past and press forward. We hold no judgement, for we have all known similar circumstances before coming to know Jesus Christ personally.
If hope for a new and different life is what you are looking for, we will help you find it in Jesus! "I have come that they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of" (John 10:10b, The Message).
